East (coast) to West (country)
Two weeks to go and counting
16.06.2008
We can’t believe where the time has gone. It seems like only yesterday and the few thousand pounds ago we were discussing the trip.
There’s been a few minor set backs (Gen’s left knee flared up over a week ago – so he’s been out of action) but we still look like we’re on track. She’s supposed to come out of the water today but…. now planned for Thursday. Need to reprioritise some of those costly and time consuming jobs.
The current passage plan is to go right once past the sandbars out the River Crouch, follow the coast for six weeks and then turn around and come back.
Out of the water with one week to go
20.06.2008
Well, finally today she came out of the water. Apparently there’s alot of growth that needs removing. Hopefully the weather will be in our favour to get all those jobs done before we’re "on the way".
Slight hitch
27.06.2008
Gen’s leg is playing up again, won’t be able to get everything done before Monday. Have organised for her to go back in the water on Tuesday. Doesn’t matter as there is still alot to do.
Back in the water
01.07.2008
Today she finally went back into the water. A few final jobs to complete and we should be on our way in the next couple of days.
Loading and Stowing
02.07.2008
Spent most of today loading and stowing – ready for the trip. Have nearly used up all the locker space.
On our way
03.07.2008
Left Burnham at 13:00 after some last minute jobs (pressure washing the decks – look at the difference!). Lovely sailing weather. The engine is superb – punching the tide but getting excellent speed.
Turning "Right"
03.07.2008
At 16:04 turned RIGHT just after crossing the Sunk Sand Bank.
First Night
03.07.2008
Got to Ramsgate around 19:40. Visited the Royal Temple Yacht Club and had a lovely Thai meal at the Sarin resturant on one of the main streets.
Dover - ferries
04.07.2008
Hazard, dodged successfully quite a number of ferries.
