Shakedown Cruise to Belfast, Maine
Trip to Belfast, Maine
26.09.2009
The trip started out, like any other Whited / Caron adventure, with a few minor mishaps. The first thing that happened was, Spruce misjudged his footing on the dock and fell in between and hurt his knee. While trying to leave the mooring, the wind was so bad that we almost hit another sailboat.
While under sail the wind was so strong that we were able to go 5.0 to 6.0 Kts all the way. Due to the small craft advisory we had to duck into a safe port, so we chose Wilson’s Cove. Upon lowering the motor the boat pitched and Spruce fell on the tiller and broke it. he was forced to stear the boat with a small piece of wood still attached and I was left to scramble to get the sails down and drop the anchor.
The night was spent with the warm glow of the Gps on anchor watch. The anchor did not drag even though we had gust of 25 Kts winds.
