Amber Sand transits Turkey
Sunday 31st
31.10.2010
Weighed a muddy anchor, downloaded a weather forecast, and headed out into a light head wind across the gulf. Once out into open sea, as we waved goodbye to Turkey we could point at Lindos closehauled, a course we managed to hold onto more or less all day and night.
Saturday 30th
30.10.2010
Proceeded with the paper chase courtesy of Captain Eddy costing us 127.55 TL.
Friday 29th
29.10.2010
Moved anchorage closer to town, as requested, to leave space for rowing competition. Went to the Café Mod happy hour for wifi but had some trouble with the Turkish keyboard.
Thursday 28th
28.10.2010
Another sound and light show deluge cued a baking session by Dianne. When it cleared after lunch, we went to town, intending to complete our exit paperwork before the bank holiday, only to find offices closed early. Moreover, we needed to employ an agent to register our exit on a computer database.
Wednesday 27th
27.10.2010
Went to the Gold computer shop and received exemplary service: a helpful technician, rather than have us order a £100 new Sony keyboard, disconnected the faulty one so we could plug in a £10 USB keyboard. Treated ourselves to chicken kebabs before the walk back to Amber Sand in the rain and darkness.
Tuesday 26th
26.10.2010
Went in search of Fethiye’s Tuesday market and found it. Bought miscellaneous items and a bounty of fruit and vegetables from the extensive and competitive range on offer. Back on board the laptop appeared to jam on “m”.
Monday 25th
25.10.2010
Left at midday hoping to find wind in the gulf but motored halfway across before enough to unfurl the genoa. Returned to our anchorage in the southwest corner of Fethiye Limani.
Sunday 24th
24.10.2010
Rowed ashore to explore Gocek, a modern village specialising in yacht berths but with the bonus of a BIM and a Dia, but found no sign of the market.
Saturday 23rd
23.10.2010
As the anchorage filled up during the day, we decided to go up to Gocek for the Sunday market.
Friday 22nd
22.10.2010
Set out for a weekend around Skopea Limani. Enjoyed a gentle sail across the gulf and chose the relative seclusion of Kille Koyu for our anchorage.
